On a tragic day in Rochester, New York, the life of 26-year-old Justin Siler was cut short. On September 20, 2018, Siler and another young man, 24-year-old Markwaun Williams, were fatally shot on the corner of Wilkins Street in a violent act that shook the community. The investigation into the double homicide led Rochester police to an 18-year-old suspect, Kyrell Gilroy.
Gilroy was subsequently arrested and faced serious charges for his alleged involvement in the killings, including two counts of second-degree murder. The community sought justice for Siler and Williams, hoping the legal process would bring some measure of peace to the grieving families.
During the trial, the jury acquitted Gilroy of the murder charges. However, he was found guilty of two counts of first-degree manslaughter and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
