The event unfolded inside a residence on Rialto Street on July 3, 2024, when a single gunshot altered the course of two lives forever. Hurell was on the first floor of the home when a bullet pierced through the ceiling from the floor above, striking him in the head.
The individual responsible for the fatal shot was identified as Marquell Miller, who was 25 years old at the
time of the incident. Miller was on the second floor of the house with an AR-15 rifle when he unintentionally discharged the weapon. The bullet traveled through the floor and into the room below, where it tragically found Hurell. The two men were known to each other, and authorities have characterized the shooting as a preventable accident. Hurell succumbed to his injuries on a Saturday following the Wednesday night shooting.
In the wake of the devastating event, Marquell Miller turned himself in to the Rochester Police and admitted his role in the accidental death.
