On a Friday afternoon in January 2019, the quiet neighborhood of Middle Village, Queens, was disturbed by a tragic event. Nicholas Mencaroni, a 40-year-old male who had served as an officer with the New York Police Department for 15 years, was found in his home with a life-threatening injury.
