In the quiet neighborhood of Corona, Queens, a young man's life was tragically cut short in a brazen act of violence. On the evening of Friday, September 13, 2024, 23-year-old Jean Pierre Rengifo-Arteaga, a White / Caucasian male, was gunned down in front of his residence on 96th Street. The attack occurred at approximately 7:20 p.m. as a lone gunman approached the front of Rengifo-Arteaga's home and opened fire.
The assailant, armed with a black handgun, fired multiple times, striking
Rengifo-Arteaga in the head, right forearm, and abdomen. First responders rushed to the scene and transported him to Elmhurst Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. The sudden and violent nature of the shooting sent shockwaves through the community.
In the days following the homicide, the New York Police Department released surveillance footage of the suspected shooter, appealing to the public for assistance in identifying the individual. The suspect is described as a male with a medium complexion, believed to be between 20 and 25 years old, with a medium build and medium-length black braided hair. At the time of the incident, he was seen wearing a beige shirt, beige pants, black shoes, and a black skull cap. Despite the release of the suspect's description and video footage, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Jean Pierre Rengifo-Arteaga.
