On a spring evening in Brooklyn, New York, 18-year-old Davion Powell, a young Black man with aspirations of becoming a forensic psychologist, was fatally shot. The incident occurred on April 16, 2019, in the Crown Heights neighborhood. Police responded to a 911 call shortly after 5:00 p.m. and discovered Powell with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and stomach in front of a residential building on St. Johns Place. He was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
