A celebration of culture turned into a scene of tragedy when 25-year-old Denzel A. Chan was fatally shot during the West Indian Day Parade in Brooklyn on Labor Day. Chan, a male visitor from Texas, was one of five people struck by gunfire at approximately 2:30 p.m. near 301 Eastern Parkway. Struck in the abdomen, he was rushed to Kings County Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The four other victims, ranging in age from 16 to 69, were expected to survive.
