On the evening of April 1, 2020, a Washington Heights resident named Dave Fraser, a 53-year-old male, was fatally shot in the Bronx. The incident took place at approximately 9:40 PM inside an apartment building located at 1561 Sheridan Avenue. Police were dispatched to the location after a 911 call reported a person had been shot.
Upon their arrival at the Sheridan Avenue apartment building, officers learned that Fraser had already been taken to BronxCare Medical Center by private means.
At the hospital, medical personnel attended to a gunshot wound to his torso. Despite their efforts, Dave Fraser was pronounced dead a short time after his arrival.
Investigators believe the shooting was connected to drug-related activities. Sources indicated the incident occurred on the fifth floor of the apartment building. Following an investigation into the matter, authorities arrested 51-year-old Edwin Mitel, a Bronx resident, on April 20, 2020. Mitel was subsequently charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with Fraser's death.
