In the early moments of a Wednesday morning in November 2016, the life of a 27-year-old mother, Salaya Figueroa, was tragically cut short by gunfire. The incident unfolded just after 12:30 a.m. outside the Louis Pink Houses, a public housing complex in East New York, Brooklyn. Figueroa was struck by a single bullet in the back as she and her boyfriend were outside one of the buildings at 1308 Loring Avenue. Police believe she was not the intended target of the shooting.
