On November 9, 2020, a domestic dispute escalated to a fatal act of violence in the driveway of her home on Eastwood Avenue. It was there that her husband, Paul Bonny, then 34, shot her before turning the gun on himself in a failed suicide attempt. A neighbor's call to 911 brought Suffolk County police to a grim scene where they found Cathiana and Paul with gunshot wounds.
Both were rushed to the hospital, but Cathiana Bonny succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. Paul Bonny, who was in serious condition, survived his self-inflicted gunshot wound.
