In the autumn of 2020, a young woman's life was tragically cut short in Rochester, New York. Twenty-one-year-old Chyra Floyd was fatally shot on November 19, 2020. The incident occurred on Clairmount Street, forever altering the lives of those involved.
The circumstances surrounding Floyd's death were not those of a random act of violence, but rather a complex and devastating turn of events among acquaintances.
Floyd was a passenger in a vehicle with two other individuals when an exchange of gunfire erupted with people in a second car. In a tragic twist, the fatal shot did not come from the opposing vehicle.
Investigations revealed that a passenger in the car with Floyd, 20-year-old Airianna Judkins of Greece, fired a handgun at the other car. However, the bullet struck Floyd, who was seated in the front passenger seat. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Chyra Floyd succumbed to her injuries.
In the wake of the shooting, Airianna Judkins turned herself in to the Rochester Police. She was subsequently charged with manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon. Another passenger in the vehicle, 21-year-old Rayshawn Brumfield of Rochester, also faced charges. Brumfield was accused of firing a handgun out of the rear window at the second car and was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment. At the time of the incident, he was on parole, leading to his incarceration at the Monroe County Jail.
