In the early days of 2016, the life of Adrin Ohaekwe, a 22-year-old African American man from Antioch, Tennessee, was tragically cut short. On January 3rd, his body was discovered on Old Smith Springs Road in Nashville, the victim of multiple gunshot wounds. The grim discovery set in motion a homicide investigation that would quickly uncover a story of a robbery gone wrong and a fatal falling out among accomplices.
Investigators soon connected Ohaekwe's murder to a drug-related shooting
and robbery that had taken place in the nearby city of Smyrna the previous night. It was determined that Ohaekwe himself had been involved in this earlier crime. As the investigation progressed, two primary suspects in his death emerged: 27-year-old Glenn Roby Jr. and 27-year-old Kevyn Allen. The day after Ohaekwe's body was found, Roby turned himself into the authorities. Allen was apprehended later and, along with Roby, was charged with first-degree murder.
A third individual, 19-year-old Mackenzie Colling, was also implicated in the aftermath of the crime. She was charged with being an accessory after the fact and tampering with evidence for providing assistance to Roby following the murder. The investigation painted a clear picture of the events: after the robbery in Smyrna, a disagreement erupted between Ohaekwe and his accomplices. It was during this dispute that Kevyn Allen fatally shot Ohaekwe.
The legal process that followed brought the full story to light. Both Glenn Roby Jr. and Kevyn Allen faced trial for their roles in Adrin Ohaekwe's death. Ultimately, a jury found both men guilty of first-degree premeditated murder. For their crimes, they were each sentenced to life in prison, bringing a close to the violent series of events that ended a young man's life and irrevocably altered the lives of several others.
