On a cold afternoon in Rochester, New York, the life of 32-year-old Charlotte Thomas was tragically cut short. On January 23, 2022, at approximately 5:00 PM, police responded to the area of Lyell Avenue and Child Street where they discovered Thomas lying in the road with a gunshot wound. She was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital, but succumbed to her injuries later that evening.
The incident stemmed from an altercation, though it was reported that Thomas did not know the man who shot her.
Following a swift and thorough investigation by the Rochester Police Department, authorities identified Ammenra Felton as the individual responsible for Thomas's death. After the shooting, Felton, who was 32 years old at the time, fled the state in an attempt to evade capture. His flight from justice ended in Sugarland, Texas, where he was located and apprehended by a collaborative effort between Rochester Police Officers, the United States Marshals Task Force, and local Texas law enforcement.
Ammenra Felton was brought back to Rochester to face legal proceedings for the death of Charlotte Thomas. In August 2023, a Monroe County Jury found him guilty of Murder in the 2nd Degree and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree. On October 2, 2023, Felton was sentenced for his crimes. The District Attorney noted that Thomas was a woman loved by her friends and family and that her life was ended far too soon due to Felton's violent and intentional actions with an illegal firearm.
