In a quiet home in Castleton-on-Hudson, New York, a domestic dispute escalated into a horrific act of violence on the evening of January 13, 2021. This tragic event resulted in the deaths of two females, 55-year-old Manjeet Kaur and 14-year-old Jasleen Kaur, who were both of Southwest Asian ethnicity. The two were fatally shot inside their residence in what authorities later described as a double murder-suicide.
The perpetrator was identified as 57-year-old Bhupinder Singh, who also resided in the home. After shooting Manjeet and Jasleen, Singh turned the gun on himself, taking his own life. All three individuals were discovered deceased inside the house by law enforcement.
A fourth person present in the home at the time of the incident, 40-year-old Rashpal Kaur, sustained a gunshot wound to her arm. Despite her injury, she managed to escape the residence and seek help from a neighbor. She was subsequently transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation into the tragic event was conducted by the New York State Police in conjunction with the Schodack Police Department and the Rensselaer County District Attorney's Office. Authorities conducted interviews with neighbors and performed background checks to understand the circumstances that led to the deadly confrontation. The investigation concluded that the incident was a result of domestic violence, and with the perpetrator deceased, no further suspects were sought, and no arrests were made.
