On a tragic Mother's Day, May 10, 2026, the life of 18-year-old Quahmir Cruz was cut short by gun violence in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. The fatal incident occurred in the afternoon, just after 3 p.m., inside a New York City Housing Authority building within the Van Dyke Houses on Blake Avenue.
