On the night of October 27, 2021, Louis Lombardo, a 28-year-old male from Dix Hills, was fatally shot in a garage in Huntington Station, New York. Lombardo and a group of people were in the garage of a home on Murdoch Street when another group of individuals, at least one of whom was armed, approached up the driveway. As the occupants of the garage attempted to close the door, a shot was fired from the driveway, penetrating the door and striking Lombardo.
He was transported to Huntington Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The subsequent investigation revealed that the shooting was the result of a botched robbery. Four individuals planned to rob a marijuana dealer at the Huntington Station residence. The plan involved two of the suspects setting up a fake marijuana deal to gain access, while two others would then execute the robbery. The fifth individual was to be the getaway driver. When the would-be robbers arrived, they found the garage door locked. They demanded it be opened and threatened violence. One of the individuals then fired a shot through the closed door, which tragically struck and killed Louis Lombardo, who was a friend of the intended robbery victim.
Following an investigation, which included the review of video surveillance from both inside and outside the garage, four suspects were arrested and charged in connection with Lombardo's death. Jonray Perez, 17, of Babylon; Kayla Alvarenga, 20, of Deer Park; Jashawn Strickland, 17, of Bay Shore; and Jillian Kolsch, 20, of Smithtown, were all charged with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and conspiracy. Perez and Alvarenga faced an additional charge of criminal possession of a weapon. All four defendants pleaded not guilty and were remanded without bail.
