In the early morning hours of August 22, 2020, a verbal disagreement in a Huntington Station, New York, parking lot escalated into a fatal encounter for Nicholas Ehrmann, a 38-year-old male. The seemingly minor dispute would end with Ehrmann losing his life and a young man facing a long prison sentence.
The incident began with a brief verbal exchange between Ehrmann and 19-year-old Joshua Taylor in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven on Depot Road. What was said during this exchange remains unclear, but it was enough to provoke a deadly reaction. Following the argument, Taylor confronted Ehrmann in the middle of Depot Road. It was there, at approximately 6:18 a.m., that Taylor produced a handgun and fired, striking Ehrmann. As Ehrmann lay wounded on the pavement, Taylor fled the scene.
Suffolk County Police officers, responding to a 911 call about the shooting, discovered Ehrmann on the ground with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to Huntington Hospital, but his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead. The Homicide Squad launched an investigation that quickly pointed to Joshua Taylor as the person responsible.
On September 8, 2020, detectives arrested Taylor, an East Northport resident, and charged him with second-degree murder. The case moved through the legal system, and on April 15, 2022, Taylor pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of Manslaughter in the First Degree. For the shooting death of Nicholas Ehrmann, Joshua Taylor was sentenced to 20 years in prison, which will be followed by five years of post-release supervision.
