A Halloween evening in 2021 brought a tragic end to the life of David Yaw, a 31-year-old Black / African American man from Rochester, New York. On that night, Yaw was involved in an argument that escalated to fatal violence at the intersection of Dewey and Knickerbocker Avenues. The altercation concluded with Yaw being shot, and he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the death of David Yaw led law enforcement to a suspect, 37-year-old Lance Bullard, also a resident of
Rochester. Less than two weeks after the shooting, authorities located and apprehended Bullard in Ohio. He was subsequently charged in connection with Yaw's death.
In the ensuing legal proceedings, Lance Bullard faced charges of second-degree murder and weapons possession. Ultimately, Bullard pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him. In April 2023, he was sentenced to 23 years in prison for his role in the death of David Yaw.
