In the late hours of December 29, 2025, a tragic event unfolded within the walls of a downstairs apartment on Garson Avenue in Rochester, New York. Inside, 38-year-old Devin McBride Sr. was found deceased, having sustained at least one fatal gunshot wound to his torso. The initial report to authorities, made by his 17-year-old son, Devin McBride Jr., suggested that an unknown intruder had shot his father and subsequently fled the scene.
However, as the investigation progressed, the
narrative provided by the teenager began to unravel. Investigators ultimately determined that the initial account was false. It is now alleged that following an argument between the father and son, who lived together, Devin McBride Jr. shot his father once in the chest. Police recovered an unregistered and defaced 9mm handgun and a shotgun from the apartment, both of which reportedly belonged to the younger McBride.
Following the investigation, Devin McBride Jr. was arrested and has since been charged with Murder in the 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree. After his arraignment in Family Court, his bail was set at $10,000 cash. The case was later presented to a Monroe County Grand Jury, which indicted the teenager on charges of second-degree murder and gun crimes. While the legal proceedings are ongoing, family members have expressed their shock and have asked the public to reserve judgment, stating that the situation is more complex than it appears and that the son loved his father.
