In the early morning hours of September 11, 2022, the life of 17-year-old Cahj'Miere Robinson was tragically cut short in Rochester, New York. A student at Franklin High School, he was with friends in a park next to the Thomas P. Ryan Recreation Center on Webster Avenue when the fatal encounter occurred. Around 2 a.m., a suspect approached the group, and gunfire erupted. Cahj'Miere was struck multiple times in the upper body and pronounced dead at the scene.
Another teenager, a 16-year-old boy, was also shot in the face but survived his injuries.
The Rochester community was left mourning the loss of another young life to gun violence. The city's school district provided a Trauma, Illness, and Grief team to support students and staff affected by the tragedy. Investigators later revealed that the shooting was the result of a planned robbery, with the two teenagers having been lured to the park for that purpose.
The investigation into Cahj'Miere's death led to the identification and arrest of two suspects. Jaiden Robinson, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, was apprehended in Elmira, where he had relocated shortly after the incident. At the time of his arrest, he was allegedly in possession of a loaded handgun. The second suspect was identified as 22-year-old Michael Scott Jr. of Rochester. Scott was already incarcerated at the Monroe County Jail on charges related to a separate deadly shooting that occurred in August 2023.
Both Jaiden Robinson and Michael Scott Jr. were charged with second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the death of Cahj'Miere Robinson and the injury of the second teen. The case was set to be reviewed by a Monroe County grand jury for further legal proceedings.
