In the early hours of a Sunday in Rochester, New York, the life of 24-year-old Justin McMillian was tragically cut short. On April 12, 2020, gun violence erupted on Clifford Avenue, leaving McMillian dead at the scene and two other individuals wounded. The shooting prompted a thorough investigation by the Rochester Police Department.
The investigation into the homicide led authorities to identify Dvontea Alexander as a suspect.
Following his arrest, Alexander faced a jury trial for his involvement in the incident. The prosecution presented its case, and Alexander was ultimately convicted on multiple charges, including Murder in the 2nd Degree, two counts of Attempted Murder in the 2nd Degree, Assault in the 1st Degree, Assault in the 2nd Degree, and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree.
On February 10, 2022, a Monroe County Court Judge sentenced Dvontea Alexander, then 29 years old, to a term of 50 years to life in the New York State Department of Corrections. The sentencing brought a measure of justice to the family of Justin McMillian and the other victims of the violent encounter.
