In the early morning hours of a Saturday in the Bronx, the sound of a gunshot shattered the quiet of the Williamsbridge neighborhood. Police, alerted by a ShotSpotter activation, arrived at 763 E. 219th Street to a grim discovery. There, they found 62-year-old Russell Scott Wells, a male resident of the Bronx, unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to his head.
Emergency medical services rushed to the scene and transported Wells to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, but his injury
was too severe. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital on October 22, 2022. The incident prompted an investigation by the New York Police Department, who treated the case as a homicide.
For several months, the case remained under investigation until a break led to an arrest. On Tuesday, January 17, 2023, the NYPD took 45-year-old Baroney Lewis into custody. Lewis, a resident of the Bronx, was subsequently charged in connection with the death of Russell Scott Wells. The charges against him included murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon.
