A loving father's life was tragically cut short on a Brooklyn street corner. Cyian Brown, a 34-year-old Black man, was killed in a drive-by shooting on the evening of November 12, 2022. The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Hendrix Street and New Lots Avenue in the East New York neighborhood. Brown, a father of six, was standing near the corner when a black Jeep reportedly approached. An unknown gunman opened fire from the vehicle, firing about ten shots.
Brown was struck once in the chest.
Emergency services rushed Brown to Brookdale University Hospital, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Originally from Jamaica, Brown was remembered by friends and family as a kind and jovial person who was deeply devoted to his family. He worked as both a truck driver and an event photographer, capturing cherished moments at weddings and baby showers. His sudden death left a profound void in the lives of his loved ones, particularly his six children.
In the wake of the shooting, the New York Police Department launched an investigation and has appealed to the public for assistance. Authorities released surveillance footage showing the suspected gunman. The suspect is described as a man with a dark complexion who was last seen wearing a dark-colored hooded jacket and ripped jeans. Police also released photographs of two individuals they are seeking to identify as potential witnesses.
