In a chaotic and violent turn of events on a Wednesday night in November 2018, 25-year-old Carlton Spencer, a male from the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, was fatally shot. The incident unfolded inside a Target store located within the City Point shopping center on Albee Square West in Downtown Brooklyn.
The situation reportedly began when Spencer, along with a group of other young men, some allegedly armed with knives or a machete, pursued a 44-year-old man named Bobby Jackson into
the busy retail establishment. The chase culminated on the second floor of the Target, where Jackson allegedly turned and fired a handgun, striking Spencer in the chest. Despite being rushed to Brooklyn Hospital, Spencer succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The store was immediately evacuated and closed as police began their investigation.
In the aftermath, police took several individuals into custody. Authorities recovered a handgun from the scene and arrested Bobby Jackson. He was subsequently charged with criminal possession of a loaded firearm, reckless endangerment, menacing, and unlawful possession of marijuana. Another man, 26-year-old Gregory Kimble, was also arrested and faced charges of reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon, assault, and menacing. Law enforcement sources indicated that all individuals involved in the altercation, including Carlton Spencer, had affiliations with local gangs. The investigation into the fatal shooting was reported to be ongoing, with the possibility of more arrests and charges.
