On the evening of March 22, 2019, Courtney Tingle, a 26-year-old male, was attending a baby shower at a catering hall on Washington Avenue in the Prospect Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. As he was leaving the event at approximately 10 p.m., he was shot multiple times in the chest. Emergency services arrived at the scene and transported Tingle to a nearby hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting led police to identify a
suspect, Daquan Carter, who was 28 years old at the time. Authorities stated that both Tingle and Carter were residents of the Walt Whitman Houses, a public housing complex in Fort Greene, and lived in close proximity to one another. The motive for the shooting is believed to be gang-related, with police sources indicating that Tingle was affiliated with a street gang known as 'Team Bang Out,' and Carter was an alleged member of the Bloods gang. Reports suggest that an argument had taken place at the party before the fatal shooting occurred.
In November 2019, Daquan Carter was arrested after a witness identified him in a lineup. He was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with Courtney Tingle's death.
Courtney Tingle, also known as 'Aggy,' was the cousin of rapper Lil' Kim, who publicly mourned his death. He was described by family as a young father who worked in construction and was running his own custom drinks business. His great-aunt, who was also his legal guardian, remembered him as a kind person.
