On December 26, 2017, the day after Christmas, 53-year-old Anthony Shuford and a woman named Stella Truitt, 54, were found shot to death inside their residence in the 1600 block of 30th Street Ensley in Birmingham, Alabama. A concerned neighbor discovered them after noticing damage to their home and went to check on them. When police arrived, they found the couple lying on the floor, and both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators with the Birmingham Police Department believe
the double homicide was not a random act of violence. At the time, a police sergeant stated that the suspect or suspects clearly lacked an appreciation for life. Despite the initial investigation and pleas to the public for information, the case has grown cold.
As of late 2022, no arrests have been made in connection with the murders of Anthony Shuford and Stella Truitt. Detectives have indicated that they have very few leads in the case and continue to ask for the public's help. They have encouraged anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward to help bring closure to the families of the victims. A cash reward has been offered by Crime Stoppers for any tip that leads to an arrest.
