Raymond Scott Brown II, a 36-year-old male music producer known professionally as Scotty Beats, was fatally shot on October 13, 2006, in Bowie, Maryland. The incident occurred when Brown attempted to prevent the theft of his vehicle, which was being towed away by individuals intent on stealing its custom rims.
The investigation into his death led to the arrest of Jamaal Alexis, a 24-year-old from Landover, Maryland.
In October 2010, a jury convicted Alexis of second-degree murder in connection with Brown's death. In December of that same year, he was sentenced to 140 years in prison. In addition to the murder of Brown, Alexis's sentence also encompassed charges related to the murders of two other individuals, Bobby Ennels and Anthony Cash, and the attempted murder of Frances Lammonse.
The case took another dark turn when it was revealed that a key witness in the murder of Raymond Scott Brown II had also been killed. Authorities alleged that Jamaal Alexis had ordered his brother, Rashaad Alexis, to carry out the murder of the witness. This led to further legal proceedings against the Alexis brothers, expanding the scope of the initial homicide investigation.
