In the late hours of a spring evening, the sound of gunfire shattered the night on Indian Head Highway in Oxon Hill, Maryland. A Prince George's County police officer on patrol heard the shots and witnessed two vehicles speeding away from the scene, heading towards Washington D.C. One of those vehicles carried 33-year-old Kareem Chenier Ware, a male resident of Waldorf, Maryland.
The chase that ensued would end in tragedy.
The fleeing vehicles managed to elude the pursuing officer, disappearing into the city. Later, D.C. Police discovered one of the cars on the 3800 block of Halley Terrace SE. Inside, they found Kareem Chenier Ware suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the vehicle Ware was in, as well as the second vehicle, had vanished.
For a time, the case remained without witnesses coming forward. However, an arrest was eventually made in connection with the homicide. A man by the name of Saeve Evans was taken into custody for his alleged involvement in the incident that led to Ware's death. The events that transpired on that night in May of 2009 cut short the life of a father, son, and brother.
