In the small town of Hurlock, Maryland, the life of 45-year-old Floyd Cain Jr. was tragically cut short on April 29, 2016. A dispute that afternoon escalated to deadly violence, leaving a community in shock and a family mourning an unexpected loss.
The fatal encounter occurred outside the Prospect Heights apartments on Gold Rush Lane. Reports from that day indicate that an argument broke out between Cain and another man, 33-year-old Brandon D. Milton.
The verbal altercation turned physical when Cain allegedly struck Milton with a wooden object. In response, Milton produced a handgun and shot Cain at least twice before fleeing the scene.
Emergency services were called to the chaotic scene, and Cain was rushed to a nearby hospital in Seaford, Delaware, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit was called in to lead the investigation into the death of the Hurlock man.
An immediate search for Milton was launched by law enforcement. The day after the shooting, authorities located and apprehended him in Cambridge. Following his arrest, Brandon D. Milton was charged with first and second-degree murder in connection with the death of Floyd Cain Jr. The case then moved to the Dorchester County judicial system, where Milton would await trial for his alleged role in the fatal shooting. Ultimately, Milton was convicted of second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. For these crimes, he was sentenced to a total of 50 years in prison.
