Morris Haskins Jr., a 43-year-old Black or African American man from Washington, D.C., was fatally shot on the evening of November 8, 2024. The incident occurred around 5:50 PM at Walker Mill Regional Park in Capitol Heights, Maryland, during a candlelight vigil being held for another homicide victim. Approximately 50 people were in attendance when a dispute broke out, escalating into a chaotic scene where more than 20 shots were fired, causing attendees to flee for their safety.
