On a summer morning in District Heights, Maryland, a dispute between two men who knew each other escalated into a fatal encounter. It was around 10:00 a.m. on July 20, 2022, when patrol officers were dispatched to the 3300 block of Walters Lane following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered 34-year-old Tremayne Crawford of Suitland suffering from a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but his injury proved to be too severe, and he died a short time later.
The investigation into the death of Tremayne Crawford, a male, pointed to an argument that preceded the deadly shooting. Surveillance footage from outside a liquor store on Walters Lane reportedly captured a verbal altercation between Crawford and another man. The footage allegedly shows the other individual firing a single shot before fleeing the scene, causing Crawford to collapse in the entryway of the store.
The investigation quickly led to the identification of a suspect. Daquon Parris, a 20-year-old from Bladensburg, was identified as the individual involved in the dispute with Crawford. Parris was subsequently located and taken into custody in Colonial Heights, Virginia. He has since been charged with first and second-degree murder, as well as other related charges. During the course of the investigation, Parris admitted his involvement in the fatal shooting. He is awaiting extradition back to Maryland to face the charges against him.
