On the evening of June 28, 2021, a young man, 20-year-old Brice Lawrence Jackson, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the 2000 block of Brooks Drive in an unincorporated section of District Heights, Maryland. The incident occurred at approximately 8:40 p.m., and despite the response of officers, Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was a resident of Southeast, Washington D.C.
The subsequent investigation by the Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit led to the identification and arrest of two suspects. Jayon Kemper, 21 years old at the time and from Silver Spring, along with 24-year-old Makell Lundy of Temple Hills, were taken into custody. Investigators believe the shooting occurred during a drug transaction and that the suspects and the victim were known to each other.
Both Kemper and Lundy were charged with first and second-degree murder, as well as other related charges. Following their arrest, they were held in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status. The case was not considered a random act of violence by the police.
