On the evening of May 6, 2022, a sense of normalcy in a Forestville, Maryland neighborhood was shattered by the sound of gunfire. When Prince George's County police officers arrived at the 7100 block of Donnell Place at approximately 8:05 p.m., they discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound outside of an apartment building. The injured man was identified as 32-year-old Donnie Lorenzo McMillan.
He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The preliminary investigation into the shooting suggested a harrowing motive. Detectives believe that McMillan was the victim of an attempted carjacking that escalated into a fatal encounter. For several months, the case remained under investigation as authorities worked to identify the person responsible for McMillan's death. The Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit diligently pursued leads in the effort to bring justice for McMillan and his family.
In October 2022, a significant development in the case was announced. The Homicide Unit charged 25-year-old Marx Carlton Jackson of District Heights in connection with the fatal shooting. The charges brought against Jackson were severe, including first and second-degree murder, along with other related charges. Following his arrest, Jackson was taken into the custody of the Department of Corrections and held on a no-bond status.
