On a summer evening in 2022, just a day after his 21st birthday, Deonte Kamari-James Day of Washington, D.C., was fatally shot in Suitland, Maryland. The shooting occurred around 5:25 p.m. on Monday, June 20, in the 3800 block of Regency Parkway. Patrol officers from the Prince George's County Police Department responded to a report of the shooting and discovered the young male outside with a gunshot wound.
Emergency services transported Day to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to his
injuries a short time later. Friends and family remembered him as a kind and goofy individual who cared about others; he was the father of one son. In the wake of his death, his mother initiated a fundraiser to cover the costs of his homegoing service, expressing her grief over losing her first-born son to what she described as 'senseless gun violence'.
Detectives with the Homicide Unit are actively investigating the shooting. As of now, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or a motive in the case. The investigation remains ongoing, and a substantial reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for any information that leads to an arrest and indictment.
