In the quiet neighborhood of District Heights, Maryland, the life of 23-year-old Rondell Foo was tragically cut short on a November evening in 2017. On November 21st, patrol officers from the District Heights Police Department were dispatched to the 6300 block of Sunvalley Terrace around 9:20 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mr. Foo outside, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite the immediate response, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The subsequent investigation into the homicide was undertaken by the Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit. Detectives soon identified a suspect, 26-year-old Darius 'Dirty' Wilson of Waldorf, who was an acquaintance of the victim. The investigation suggested that the motive for the fatal shooting was robbery. Evidence gathered by law enforcement included surveillance footage from a nearby apartment complex which showed a man with a handgun in the vicinity where Mr. Foo's body was found. During questioning, Wilson identified himself as the individual in the video. A key piece of evidence was a burner phone, purchased by Wilson and later found in a storm drain near the scene. The phone's records indicated that the last communication Mr. Foo received was a text message from this phone, asking him to meet shortly before he was killed.
Based on the evidence, Darius Wilson was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, assault, and several other related charges. He was held in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status. In December 2019, after a trial and four hours of deliberation by the jury, Wilson was found guilty of the first-degree murder of Rondell Foo and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony or crime of violence. In February 2020, he was sentenced for his crimes, facing a penalty of life in prison plus an additional 20 years, bringing a measure of justice to the family of Rondell Foo.
