On a Monday afternoon in District Heights, Maryland, a domestic dispute that began earlier in the day escalated into deadly violence. On March 25, 2019, 42-year-old Damon Proctor of Lexington Park, Maryland, was fatally shot outside a townhome in the 5000 block of Daventry Terrace. The incident unfolded at approximately 1:40 p.m., when Proctor, accompanied by three other individuals, arrived at the residence to continue the altercation.
A physical confrontation ensued between Proctor and
the people at the townhome. During the struggle, an individual from the townhome produced a firearm and shot Proctor. A woman who was with Proctor was also wounded in the leg during the incident but survived her injuries after being treated at a hospital. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Damon Proctor succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the individual responsible for the gunfire was identified by detectives. He voluntarily presented himself to the Criminal Investigation Division for questioning regarding the events that transpired. After providing a statement, he was released from custody pending the ongoing investigation. Authorities continued to conduct interviews and examine the evidence gathered at the scene to piece together the full sequence of events that led to the fatal shooting.
