On May 10, 2024, at approximately 6:35 p.m., Prince George's County Police officers responded to a reported shooting in the 6500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in the unincorporated area of District Heights, Maryland. Upon arrival, they discovered 63-year-old Gregory Byrd Sr. outside, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries on May 22, 2024.
