In the late evening of August 17, 2022, the life of 28-year-old Stanley Ramey of District Heights, Maryland, was tragically cut short. At approximately 10:30 p.m., police responded to the 2100 block of Rochelle Avenue for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered a male, later identified as Stanley Ramey, in the parking lot of an apartment complex suffering from gunshot wounds.
Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit immediately began an investigation into the shooting. Through their diligent work, detectives were able to identify a suspect in the fatal shooting. This led to the arrest of 20-year-old Trevon Cox of Clinton. Cox was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and other related offenses. He was taken into the custody of the Department of Corrections and held on a no-bond status.
Further investigation by detectives revealed that Stanley Ramey was not the intended target of the shooting. Investigators believe the driver or occupants of a red car seen in the area at the time of the murder may have been the actual targets. Authorities released information about this vehicle to the public in an effort to gather more information and speak with anyone who was in the car, as they may have had critical information about the case. It is not believed that anyone in the red car was injured during the incident.
