Special Deputy Sheriff John A. Beasley, aged 24, was shot and killed on January 30, 1910, outside the San Patricio County Jail in Aransas Pass, Texas. Beasley, who was assisting with placing a recently arrested man in jail, was fatally wounded by the arrested man's brother. The brother had obtained a shotgun and returned to the jail after his initial demand to release his brother was refused.
