In the late afternoon of January 30, 2017, tragedy struck at a gas station in District Heights, Maryland, ending the life of 20-year-old Carrington Daye Jr.. The young man, a resident of South Hilmar Circle in District Heights, was discovered inside the gas station located in the 3200 block of Walters Lane, suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. Despite the prompt response of patrol officers around 4:40 p.m., Daye was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities quickly determined that the
shooting was not a random act of violence and began the arduous task of identifying the person responsible for Daye's death. Their investigation swiftly led them to a suspect, and just a few days later, on February 2, 2017, an arrest was made in connection with the homicide.
The suspect was identified as 18-year-old Stephon Robinson, who also resided in District Heights on Atwood Street. Prince George's County Police detectives believed the fatal shooting was the culmination of an ongoing dispute between Robinson and Daye. Following his arrest, Robinson was charged with first and second-degree murder, along with other related charges, and was held in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status. In the wake of the tragic event, officials offered a reward of up to $25,000 for any information that would lead to an arrest and indictment in the case, urging the community to come forward with any knowledge they might have possessed.
