In a tragic turn of events on June 30, 2009, 53-year-old Rita Ann Carrico, a white female from Louisville, Kentucky, was found brutally murdered alongside her 83-year-old mother, Allie Sylvia Habich. The horrific discovery was made in her mother’s Fairdale home on National Turnpike. Carrico, a dedicated homemaker and active church volunteer, had gone to her mother's residence that morning to take her to a doctor's appointment. They never made it.
Later that day, Habich’s son, who lived with his mother, returned home from work to the gruesome scene where both women had been viciously attacked and stabbed multiple times.
The double homicide sent shockwaves through the community and left a grieving family searching for answers. To date, no arrests have been made, and the killer or killers of Rita Carrico and her mother remain at large, leaving a dark cloud over the family and the city of Louisville.
