In the late summer of 2020, the community of Grantsville, Maryland, was shaken by the tragic death of Amanda Lynn Monahan. A 25-year-old female, Amanda was a vibrant individual with a promising future. She was a 2013 graduate of Northern High School and had earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Material Engineering from Frostburg State University. She was employed as a Process Manufacturing Engineer at Automated Packaging Systems, LLC, in Keyser, West Virginia.
Those who knew her described Amanda as having a big heart, always ready with a compliment even for strangers, and willing to help anyone in need.
On Tuesday, September 1, 2020, concern grew when Amanda failed to show up for work. A family member went to her residence on Dorsey Hotel Road to check on her. Upon arrival, a devastating discovery was made. Inside the home, authorities found Amanda Monahan deceased. Alongside her was the body of 37-year-old Chad Sebold of Boynton, Pennsylvania.
Maryland State Police troopers were dispatched to the home at approximately 4:30 p.m. and pronounced both individuals dead at the scene. The initial investigation conducted by law enforcement pointed towards a murder-suicide. It is believed that Sebold, with whom Monahan had been in a relationship that had since ended, shot and killed her before taking his own life. A rifle was discovered with Sebold's body inside a bedroom of the house. Investigators determined that Monahan and Sebold were the only two individuals present at the time of the incident.
