On the night of October 30, 2020, a violent altercation erupted at the Room 301 Lounge & Bar on Crain Highway in Waldorf, Maryland, leading to the tragic death of 34-year-old Dontrell Lowell Watson of Upper Marlboro. The establishment was hosting a birthday party for members of the Chosen Few motorcycle club when a large contingent from the rival Wheels of Soul motorcycle club arrived, instigating a confrontation.
The dispute quickly escalated into gunfire inside the lounge.
In the ensuing chaos, four individuals were shot. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene around 9:00 p.m. and discovered multiple victims. Dontrell Lowell Watson, a prospective member of the Wheels of Soul, was among those struck by the gunfire. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. Three other individuals were also wounded in the shooting, with one sustaining critical injuries and the other two serious injuries. Two of the wounded were associated with the Chosen Few, and the other two, including Watson, were with the Wheels of Soul.
A thorough and lengthy investigation into the quadruple shooting was launched by the Charles County Sheriff's Office. Detectives, in collaboration with various law enforcement agencies including the U.S. Marshals Service, methodically pursued leads and executed numerous search warrants. These efforts resulted in the recovery of over 40 firearms. The investigation ultimately determined that the incident was a targeted act of violence stemming from the conflict between the two motorcycle clubs.
In a significant development nearly two years after the fatal shooting, a Charles County Grand Jury handed down indictments for twenty-one individuals connected to the case. Between June 29 and July 13, 2022, all twenty-one suspects, each identified as a member or an affiliate of the Wheels of Soul motorcycle club, were located and taken into custody through a coordinated effort led by the U.S. Marshals Service. The arrests marked a major breakthrough in bringing accountability for the events that led to the death of Dontrell Lowell Watson.
