In the pre-dawn hours of January 30, 2021, the quiet of a Hagerstown, Maryland motel parking lot was shattered by the sound of gunfire. When Hagerstown Police officers responded to a call of a shooting at the Plaza Inn and Suites on Dual Highway at approximately 4:40 AM, they discovered the body of Roderick Rashan White. A 40-year-old Black man from Greensboro, North Carolina, White was found with an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the
homicide was swiftly initiated, with detectives and the Western Maryland Crime Lab descending upon the parking lot to process the scene for evidence. As authorities worked to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting, their investigation eventually pointed them toward a suspect who was also from North Carolina.
The efforts of the Hagerstown Police Department led to the arrest of Ty'Zeon Myjzour Shipman of High Point, North Carolina. Shipman was taken into custody and subsequently charged with first-degree murder, along with other related offenses, in connection with the death of Roderick Rashan White. The case remains a stark reminder of the violence that can abruptly end a life, leaving a family to grieve and a community to seek answers.
