In the quiet residential neighborhood of Oxon Hill, Maryland, the life of 19-year-old Kevontae Clyburn was cut short on the evening of March 6, 2021. Around 7:50 p.m., patrol officers were dispatched to the 4900 block of Glassmanor Drive after reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Clyburn outside, suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate response, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation into the fatal shooting was swiftly undertaken by the Prince George's Homicide Unit. Their efforts led to the identification of two suspects in connection with the homicide. Jamal Cheetum, 18, and Lawrence Ford Jr., 19, were arrested for their alleged involvement in Clyburn's death. Investigators believe the motive for the shooting was a robbery. Following their arrest, a commissioner ordered both Cheetum and Ford to be held on a no-bond status as they awaited further legal proceedings.
