In the quiet, early morning hours of August 12, 2021, Noel Njoku, a 48-year-old Black man, was diligently working his shift as a DoorDash driver in Mitchellville, Maryland. A husband and a father to four children, he had recently taken on the delivery job to supplement his income from selling cars, all in an effort to provide for his family.
