In a shocking turn of events that left a community reeling, Fred Perkins, a 54-year-old engineer from Bowie, Maryland, was killed on April 5, 2008, following a dramatic series of events that began with a bank robbery. Perkins, a man with no prior criminal history, entered a Chevy Chase Bank branch on Annapolis Road and committed a robbery at gunpoint. He then fled the scene in the bank manager's Toyota Sequoia, initiating a police pursuit.
