In the autumn of 2021, a burst of violence on a Baltimore street set in motion a tragedy that would take more than two years to reach its somber conclusion. On the afternoon of September 24, 2021, Reginald Evans, a 60-year-old Black male, was on the 1300 block of North Central Avenue when he was struck by a gunshot. First responders rushed to the scene and transported him to a local hospital for treatment of his serious injuries.
For over two years, Evans battled the lasting effects of the shooting, a daily struggle against the complications that arose from the violent act that had irrevocably altered his life.
The fight for his life came to an end on December 2, 2023, when the 62-year-old succumbed to the medical complications stemming from the distant gunshot wound. Following his death, his body was taken to the Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy to officially determine the cause of his passing. On March 1, 2024, the medical examiner's findings were conclusive: Reginald Evans' death was ruled a homicide, a direct consequence of the shooting that had occurred years earlier.
With the official classification of his death as a homicide, detectives from the Baltimore Police Department took control of the investigation. The case, which had been a non-fatal shooting investigation, was now a murder inquiry. As of the most recent reports, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the shooting of Reginald Evans. The investigation into his death remains ongoing as police continue to seek information from the public to bring closure to the case.
