Summary based on 6 sources
Carlyle Saunders was 50 years old when he was found dead on Friday, September 1, 2023, inside a home in the 1800 block of North Collington Avenue in East Baltimore. The Baltimore Sun's homicide database lists the cause of his death as blunt force injuries. The Baltimore Police Department investigated, and the Sun's database lists the death as a homicide.

Saunders was one of two people found dead in the house that night. Police said officers responded at about 8:38 p.m. to a call asking them to check on the well-being of the people inside. According to Baltimore Witness, officers "gained entry into the residence with the assistance of the Baltimore City Fire Department" and found Saunders and 49-year-old Donnetta Roberson, both dead. Officers "observed signs of trauma to both victim's bodies." The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner took both bodies for autopsy, and homicide detectives assumed control of the investigation. Police later identified the two victims in a release that listed their dates of birth.

Little else about Saunders has been made public. No obituary, memorial page or family fundraiser for him could be found for this story, and police have not said whether he lived at the home, how he knew Roberson, or what may have led to the violence. He surely had family, friends or neighbors who remember who he was, but none of that has entered the public record.

Detectives have kept asking for help. Metro Crime Stoppers of Maryland announced a reward of up to $8,000 for information that leads to an arrest and charges in the double killing. In September 2025, two years after the deaths, Baltimore police asked the public to help them find a 64-year-old man they wanted to locate "in connection to the deaths," FOX45 reported. Police did not say that the man had been charged, and no arrest has been reported. The department has also posted a video appeal saying, "Homicide detectives need your help locating the person responsible for the deaths of 50-year-old Carlyle Saunders and 49-year-old Donnetta" Roberson.

North Collington Avenue runs through East Baltimore in the area patrolled by the police department's Eastern District, and much of the surrounding neighborhood is made up of blocks of brick rowhouses. On a residential street like this one, neighbors often notice visitors, arguments or unfamiliar cars, and those small observations can matter in a case where the victims were found inside a home.

Homicides in Baltimore began falling steeply in 2023 and 2024, reaching the lowest totals in decades, yet many killings from those years remain unsolved.

No arrest, criminal charge or court case connected to the death of Carlyle Saunders could be found in news archives or public records. More than three years later, there is no public sign that anyone has been held responsible. Anyone who knew Saunders or Roberson, who spent time at the home on North Collington Avenue, or who noticed anything out of the ordinary on that block in late August or early September 2023 may know something important. Anyone who knows where the man police are seeking may be is also urged to call. Even a small detail, such as a name overheard, a vehicle seen nearby or a conversation remembered, can help detectives move a case forward.
