In the early evening of October 6, 2021, a burst of violence shattered the relative calm outside a store on the 7200 block of Landover Road. When Prince George's County police officers arrived around 7:15 p.m., they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. This man was identified as 37-year-old Matthew Grant Hayes, a male resident of Hyattsville. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
