On the evening of August 24, 2022, a dispute between two acquaintances in a parking lot in Hyattsville, Maryland, ended in the tragic death of 30-year-old Irvin Paredes. The incident occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. in the 2300 block of University Boulevard, where patrol officers were dispatched following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Paredes, a resident of nearby Langley Park, suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of the male victim quickly pointed to a suspect. Authorities determined that the shooting stemmed from a dispute with an acquaintance. This led them to identify 29-year-old Rudis Alfaro of Laurel as the individual responsible for the fatal shooting.
In September 2022, just a few weeks after the incident, Rudis Alfaro was taken into custody by the Prince George's County Police. He was subsequently charged with first and second-degree murder, in addition to other related offenses, for his role in the death of Irvin Paredes. Following his arrest, Alfaro was held without bond as he awaited legal proceedings. The police have encouraged anyone with further information relevant to the investigation to come forward.
